Open files

This week started with a kind of confusion for me. On the one hand - things are happening, everything is ok, on the other hand - feeling that I need to do something in all areas, but I can't get around to doing it.

It was good that the PEP Mum Supervision Group took place on Monday afternoon. That's good news for you if I am your PEP mum. It's not like I'm just bustling around and no other professional knows what I'm doing or how I'm doing it. Supervision is supervision and a kind of peer supervision.

I came away from this supervision knowing that it was time to look at my open files again. This week's psychotherapy session only confirmed that.

A possible reason for my anxiety and confusion is - open files 🙂

It's all sorts of business that "hangs in the air". Something I think about in my head, but I can't "close it" unless I take conscious action, for example, by reaching out to others to get involved in my "business".

So I started to identify and close file by file.

Sometimes I also come across these "open files" in conversations with my clients. How does that sound?

For example:

"I worry about how my child will adapt to kindergarten... I think about it a lot."

"I am concerned about my child's language development. Why is he still not speaking? Others his age are already talking!"

"I'm supposed to go back to work in 3 months. I don't know what it will be like if the child hasn't adapted to kindergarten yet."

Such worries belong to the life of parents. But they are also "open files" that could be closed (to make room for new ones, he he he) if you make a call, make an appointment and find out what the options are, how your child is adapting to a potential kindergarten, what the speech therapist says about your child's language development, what the management says about situations where your child is sick, not yet adapted, etc.

I hope you also hear that closing files is not all about happy endings. There can be different outcomes, but the main thing is that there is clarity, which you can then do something about.

Go through your open files, write them down if you like, and choose the one you'll get to close today!
