Where to find time for yourself?

When you dream of time to yourself, you imagine at least a week without children, on the beach, under a palm tree: a book in one hand, a cocktail in the other.

In fact, when your children are young, after just a few hours away, you feel as if you haven't seen your children for a year.

When you look for time for yourself, think in minutes and hours, not days and weeks.

When you dream of time for yourself, the thought of what it will take to organise babysitters alone overwhelms your will.

Grandparents still at work. Girlfriends won't be free. And your partner will be tired after work anyway.

However, have the courage to address one of these options!

When you dream of time for yourself, you feel guilty. It's as if, taking care of yourself, you betray the whole family by saying, "I can't stand you, I need a break from you!"

"Time for yourself"="taking care of yourself". It's not very healthy to be the sole carer of a child 24/7.

This could be normal for the first three months of a baby's life. And then it's just taking care of yourself and the baby, not the whole house.

When you dream about time for yourself, you don't think about anything specific. And when the opportunity comes, you don't know what to do.

Write a list of ideas of what you will do when you have 5, 10, 30 minutes or an hour or five.

If you can't think of anything, start by remembering what you liked to do before you had children.

When you dream of time for yourself, it is a sign that it is a necessity, not a whim.

Remember your mum when you were little. Did she deserve a break then?

To be with oneself and to do something unproductively pleasurable or relaxing is one of the human needs.
